National League Trust Funding
Our Women’s and Girls projects are supported through funding from The National League Trust.
Women’s Football Sessions
Bath City FC Foundation is delighted to announce that our Women’s & Girls projects will continue to thrive thanks to funding from The National League Trust (NLT).
The National League Trust is a partnership between the National League, the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association. The Premier League and the PFA have pledged their support to the Trust through to 2028, each contributing to an annual donation of £1.2 million. This funding enables the Trust to help National League clubs expand and strengthen their community programmes.
Our Women’s & Girls project aims to increase female participation in sport—particularly football. Inspired by the success of the England Women’s national team and the growing interest at grassroots level, we are committed to creating opportunities for girls and women who may not otherwise take part.
The Foundation delivers this work in various ways, including lunchtime and after-school sessions in schools, holiday camps, and FA programmes such as Wildcats (ages 5–11), Squad Girls (ages 12–14), and Just Play sessions for those aged 16+.
Many people will know us through our holiday camps, where the number of female participants has risen significantly. These sessions have become so popular that we are now planning to offer dedicated girls-only camps alongside every mixed holiday camp, giving girls a space to express themselves and build confidence with the ball.
With support from the NLT, we will expand this work even further by partnering with more schools across Bath and North East Somerset. This will include increased delivery of girls-only lunchtime and after-school clubs, as well as one-
to-one female-to-female mentoring sessions for pupils identified by schools and our trained staff as likely to benefit from additional support.
Building on our provision in both primary and secondary schools, we also plan to introduce work experience opportunities for female students. These placements will help young people explore careers in sport—whether within community foundations like ours or in the professional game, potentially as match officials or elite performance coaches.
In addition, we will broaden our offer for adult women, with more Walking Football sessions and further Just Play opportunities planned across the area. Walking Football is an ideal format for anyone seeking a low-impact introduction to the game—particularly for women who may not have had the chance to play football growing up.
This funding is vital in ensuring that women and girls across B&NES have equal access to affordable, enjoyable physical activity. Who knows—through these opportunities, we may even discover a future Bath City FC Women’s first-team player, or perhaps a future England star.
