Tyrone becomes a Doctor!

It’s not every day that a young professional footballer is presented with an honorary degree and it’s not every day that a group of people from Bath City Football Club are on hand to witness the occasion. Such an occasion took place in November when locally born and raised Tyrone Mings, now an accomplished defender with Aston Villa and England, was awarded his doctorate in Education at Bath Spa University in a ceremony which was entertaining, inspiring and moving. Happily the Foundation was offered a trio of tickets for the event which Terry and Ernie, football devotees from the Reconnecting Twerton group were delighted to accept.

Before the degree presentation itself, the audience was treated to a lively question and answer session in which Tyrone Mings responded very openly on issues directly, and indirectly related to his upbringing and personal playing experience as well as to the wider role of football in society. After the speeches we were fortunate enough to have this photo opportunity and the chance of a conversation. All in all it was a heart-warming occasion to be present at.

For more information about the background and context of Tyrone Mings’ degree award, please see the 15th December article on the Bath City FC website.
